‘Farmer credit card’ comes into effect
August 28, Kathmandu: The Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality in Khotang district has started distributing ‘farmer credit card’ to the farmers of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality.
The initiative of credit card was launched to provide subsidized credit to farmers for commercial agriculture and livestock and encourage small farmers to engage in commercial agriculture enterprises.
Municipality Mayor Tirtha Bhattarai said farmer credit card along with loan was provided to farmers in collaboration with Global IME Bank, R&D Innovative Solution Pvt Ltd and the municipality, Bhattarai informed. “In the first phase, the farmer credit card was distributed to 21 farmers of the municipality.
We are planning to gradually distribute credit cards to other farmers. But the farmers who received credit subsidy cannot withdraw cash from the account by using the credit card”, he further said.
Bhattarai further informed, “Arrangement has been made to spend up to Rs 200,000 through the card. Farmers can purchase fertilizer, seed and equipment through scanning of QR code of the credit card”. RSS
