NPC Vice Chair and UN Resident Coordinator discuss Nepal’s agenda for upcoming UNGA

June 1, Kathmandu: Dr Min Bahadur Shrestha, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC), and Hanna Singer-Hamdy, UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal, on Wednesday, engaged in a discussion regarding the issues Nepal aims to address during the upcoming UN General Assembly.

Dr Shrestha informed that the focus of the discussion was on securing necessary financial, technical, and mutual assistance to achieve Nepal’s development goals. They deliberated on how to effectively pursue the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the remaining years.

In response, Hanna Singer-Hamdy expressed the UN’s commitment to Nepal’s well-being. She applauded Nepal’s strategic efforts to graduate from the category of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) despite the challenges.

“The UN is eager to extend comprehensive assistance and coordination to support Nepal’s transition to a developing country status,” she said.

Vice Chairman Dr Shrestha expressed gratitude to the UN for its ongoing support towards Nepal’s development.

This meeting sets the stage for Nepal’s active participation in the upcoming UN General Assembly, where the country will have the opportunity to advocate for its priorities and aspirations on the global stage.
