President Bhandari pays tribute to martyrs

January 30, Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has paid tribute to all known and unknown martyrs, including Sukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dasharath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha, who sacrificed their lives for civil liberty and the establishment of democracy.

Issuing a message on the occasion of Martyrs Day on Monday, President Bhandari said it was the day of special commemoration of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the people and country.

Magh 16 is observed as Martyrs Day in memory of martyrs who fought against tyrannical rulers and systems over time so that Nepali people could become free and sovereign.

“The freedom and rights we are enjoying today are the results of the martyrdom,” President Bhandari stated in the message, adding that our initiatives towards sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity would be a true tribute to the martyrs.

She wished the Martyrs Day inspired everyone to play constructive roles from their sides to realize the martyr’s dream of a just, equitable and civilized society and prosperous nation.
