Over 25 persons injured, three critical, in Dhankuta stampede

January 29, Kathmandu: At least 25 persons were injured in a stampede that occurred at Dhankuta stadium on Saturday evening.

The stampede took place in a crowd among the locals who rushed to attend a live concert of popular singer Pramod Kharel.

Three among them are said to be in critical condition.

The concert took place in a festival site at Dhankuta municiplaity-5, Tundikhel.

Acting Chief District Officer of Dhankuta Mamata Adhikari informed that 15 out of the injured were rushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan and Biratnagar-based hospitals for further treatment after preliminary treatment at Dhankuta Hospital.

All government office vehicles were used to take the injured to the hospitals when ambulances available were inadequate.

Acting CDO Adhikari said she had directed for the use of government vehicles to rush the injured to health facilities.

Entire events of the Dhankuta Mahotsav (festival) have been cancelled for Saturday after the stampede, the organizer said.
