Government official violating RTI fined Rs 15,000

January 27, Kathmandu: The National Information Commission (NIC) has fined the chief administrative officer of Siraha Municipality, Baliram Yadav, Rs 15,000 for violating the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The quasi-judicial body fined Yadav, reasoning that he denied information to the information requester, Parashuram Saha, as per RTI.

Chief administrative officer Yadav not only denied information but also ignored the directive from NIC.

Information on this was shared by Information Commissioner Ratna Prasad Mainali in a press release.

The RTI Act has given the right the citizen to seek information about his/her public concern from public agencies.
