Avalanche in Manasalu base camp kills one person leaving 14 others injured
Gorkha: An avalanche occurred at the base camp of Mt Manaslu in Gorkha district has killed one person and leaving 14 others injured.
According to the Chief District Officer of Gorkha, Hari Shankar Acharya, the deceased is Anup Rai of Makalu rural municipality in Sankhuwasava.
CDO Acharya said American climber Hilary Nelson has gone missing in the avalanche.
Two of the injured in the avalanche have been airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.
Similarly, 12 of the injured are said to be out of danger and are in the 3rd base camp of Mt. Manaslu.
The Department of Tourism’s Mountaineering Section said 404 climbing teams of 38 expedition teams have taken permits for climbing Mt Manaslu in the autumn season.
A total of 506 mountaineers belonging to 58 expedition teams have acquired permission for climbing 15 mountains and peaks including Mt Everest and Mt Manaslu this autumn season.
