Police regulation amendment incentivizes lower-rung personnel-Spokesperson

Kathmandu: Spokesperson of the Nepal Police, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bishnu Kumar KC claimed that the recent amendment to the police regulation has encouraged and boosted up the confidence of the lower-ranked police personnel.

At a press meet and interaction held at police headquarters on Tuesday, he said a recent amendment to the police regulation allowing to add three extra posts has further encouraged the police personnel who have been working in the same position for the last 20 years. “This amendment has opened up avenues for equal opportunity to the police personnel to enhance their career and also ended the situation wherein they have to remain in the same position for long, the spokesperson added. The addition of the positions would make difference in perks and benefits and boost up the confidence of the fellow police personnel, he said. By amending the regulation, the police administration has added the posts of assistant head constable, senior head constable and a senior police inspector.

The regulation has introduced a new provision to promote police senior personnel to the assistant head constable, head constable to senior head constable and Sub Inspector to senior Sub Inspector after serving five years in the same positions. KC shared that the regulation has been amended to keep five levels in the position of office assistant. With the amendment of regulation allowing the addition of three levels, there will be 33 per cent promotion in the position of assistant head constable, 25 per cent in senior head constable and 33 per cent in senior police sub-inspector. Currently, Nepal Police has 47, 053 police senior personnel (jawan), 14,989 head constables and 4,296 sub-inspector. —
