St. Xaviers conducts writing workshop to hone students’ news writing skills

December 6, Kathmandu: The St. Xavier’s College has held a two-day writing workshop for journalism students.

The workshop organized by the college’s Department of Major Arts (DoMA) at its premises in Maitighar on 5-6 December saw students studying journalism hone their skills in editing news and news writing, according to a press release issued on Monday.

According to the college, the objective of the workshop also included equipping the students with sufficient knowledge about pitching news stories and writing press releases.

Inaugurating the workshop, Fr. Principal Dr Augustine Thomas S.J. hoped that both the mentors and the students could make the most out of the workshop.

 “The mentors included New York Times journalist, Bhadra Sharma, digital communication specialist Marty Logan, among others,” the college said.

  “In addition to the workshop, the college is also conducting the Media Talk Series on a regular basis. The series has been designed to give the students the opportunity to interact with various media persons and learn from their experience.  The December edition will focus on ‘Human Rights Reporting’,” said Chun Gurung, Faculty Lead of Journalism and Mass Communication.
