Nepal to import 3 million doses of Vero Cell vaccine from China

China had previously provided more than 800,000 doses of the Vero Cell vaccine in aid to Nepal

June 3, Kathmandu: As the Government of Nepal (GoN) tries to step up its vaccination drive, it has decided to import as many as three million doses of the Vero Cell vaccine from China.

In this regard, the GoN and the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm have agreed to bring in three million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, starting from July 8.

The national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has been entrusted with the responsibility to bring the vaccines to Nepal.

NAC General Manager Dim Prakash Poudel said preparations were underway to fly to China to import the vaccines.

Poudel informed that a NAC wide-body aircraft would fly to China on July 8 to bring the first shipment of the vaccine.

The vaccines will be brought in three phases. One million doses of vaccines will be brought in first phase.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on June 14 had decided to grant permission to the Health Ministry to forward the vaccine procurement process.

China had previously provided more than 800,000 doses of the Vero Cell vaccine in aid to Nepal to help fight the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
