Cabinet decides to conduct first phase of election in 40 districts and second phase of election in 37 districts

February 9, Kathmandu: The government has recommended the Election Commission to conduct the first phase of the House of Representatives election in 40 districts of Province 2, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province and Sudurpaschim Province on the 30th of April and the second phase of election in 37 districts of Province 1, Bagmati Province and Karnali Province on the 10th of May this year.

Making the latest decisions of the Cabinet meeting public today, Government Spokesperson and Communications Minister Parbat Gurung informed that the elections would be held on the slated dates and PM Oli visited the Election Commission today for the same.

The Cabinet meeting also decided to give a public holiday on the 12th of February on the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar Fetival of Sherpa Community and Sonam Lhosar Festibal of Tamang Community.

The meeting also decided to appoint Hitendra Shakya as the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority. Minister Gurung also informed that the government had endorsed Education Regulation (9th Amendment) 2077 BS.

On a different note, Communications Minister Gurung applauded the roles played by the frontline workers in fight against the Covid-19. He stressed on the need for change in daily food and sanitation habits for containing the virus infection.
