Newari communities celebrating Mha Pooja and Nepal Sambat 1140

October 29: Newa New Year which is based in the Newa calendar, Nepal Sambat 1140 is also  being celebrated today. Newari communities are observing Mha Puja today which literally refers to self worship, making offering to one’s body.

Meanwhile, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished peace, happiness, prosperity and progress to all Nepali brothers and sisters at home and abroad on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1140.

In best wishes message, President Bhandari said, that she was confident that Nepal Sambat would help increase harmony, brotherhood and mutual cooperation among all Nepalis.”

She extended best wishes among all, saying Nepal Sambat, the New Year of Newa: Community could disseminate the message of national unity and prosperity among all Nepalis.

Likewise, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun has extended best wishes to all Nepalis at home and abroad on the occasion of Tihar and Nepal Sambat.

Meanwhile, in a message of best wishes, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepal Sambat would encourage all Nepalis to be united. He said “Nepal sambat would encourage us towards philanthropy as well as make unity among us all stronger.

Recalling the propounder of Nepal Sambat, Sankhadhar Sakhwa, he said that Sakhwa was declared national luminary in appreciation of his contribution to developing and promoting this calendar year.  Nepal Sambat is commemorated since Sakhwa paid the debts of the poor people.
