International Senior Citizen Day marked today with various programs in Nepal

Kathmandu, Oct. 1: International Senior Citizen Day has been marked today with various programs in Nepal as well. Addressing a program organized by Senior Citizen Day celebration main organizing committee in Kathmandu today, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari expressed her happiness that the government has been heading programme of social security for senior citizens as envisioned by the constitution.

President Bhandari also drew the attention of the concerned authority to the expansion of social security for the livelihood of all.

Meantime, President Bhandari stressed ending the practice of sending senior citizens to old age homes providing them due respect.

She also said the new generation should learn to respect the older generation following our tradition of taking blessings from the seniors.

Also speaking on the occasion, Deputy PM and Defense Minister Ishwor Pokhrel said the government is committed to the promise of making senior citizen allowance five thousand per month as a mark of respect to the senior citizens.

 Meantime, Chair of the Women, Children and Senior citizens committee of the parliament, Niru Pal pointed out the need of educating youths with a moral education that senior citizens should be respected.

On the occasion, President Bhandari awarded various awards to different personalities and organizations for their notable contribution to senior citizens.
