Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Tham maya Thapa says 200 local levels to have senior citizen service centres soon

September 7, Lalitpur : Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare, Thammaya Thapa, has said government was always ready to extend assistance for the protection of senior citizen’s rights.

At a programme organized by the Senior Citizens Day Service Centre at Bandegaon of Godawari Municipality today, Minister Thapa informed that among 753 local levels, 200 would have senior citizen service centers soon. The government was launching various programmes to ensure rights to senior citizens, she added. “The citizen over sixty years are venerable. They are sources of knowledge,” she said, pointing out the need of transferring their knowledge and skills to the young generation.

On the occasion, Member of the House of Representatives, Pampha Bhushal, viewed that the Centre has been a good forum for the senior citizens to exchange their views and share problems. These are the places of reunion for them, she added. Another lawmaker Nawaraj Silwal said the senior citizens have contributed much to the society, so they deserve respect from the State.
