Finance Minister Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada proposes one day jail term for financial criminals

August 27, Kathmandu : Minister for Finance Dr. Yubraj Khatiwada has said the people committing financial crime should be liable to at least a day jail term.

Minister Dr. Khatiwada in today’s meeting of the finance committee stressed on the provision of jail term for those involved in the financial irregularities to discourage the mentality that the governmental system can be affected with the money.

The members having clause wise discussion of Revenue Leakage (Investigation and Control) First Amendment Bill 2075 stressed on the provision of punishment to those involved in financial crime but not to threaten the industrialist and entrepreneurs in the name of punishment.

Similarly, former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai objected after the Department of Revenue Investigation was brought under the office of the Prime Minister. He further said all entrepreneurs, employees and political leadership should be made responsible to make Nepali economy more open and transparent.

However, Former finance Ministers Surendra Pandey and Gyanendra  Bahadur Karki stressed the financial punishment than jail term to the people involved in financial irregularities.  The discussion over the bill at the committee is underway for a long.
