Pre-budget discussion focuses upcoming budget prioritize agriculture sector

Kathmandu, May 9: Members of concerned committees attending the pre-budget discussion programme recommended that upcoming budget prioritised agriculture.

Agriculture is the backbone of country’s economic prosperity. So budget should focus on scientific and modern agriculture system alongside the facility of subsidy in agriculture, they stressed.

Putting his view at the discussion programme organised by the Finance Committee under the House of Representatives, Dilendra Prasad Badu, member of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, stressed the need for utilising modern technology and increasing investment in agriculture, cooperatives and production sector.

Likewise, Sher Bahadur Tamang, member of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, underscored the need for boosting investment in production and transportation. He mentioned the benefit from the construction of roads in mountainous area by ensuring agricultural products’ access to market.

Mahindra Raya Yadav, member of the Development and Technology Committee, emphasised allocation of the budget based on geography and populations, while Bhawani Prasad Khapung, member of the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resource Committee, was of the view that budget should concentrate on increasing investment in agriculture and cooperatives.

The collected recommendations would be submitted to the government to facilitate in making budget, said Krishna Prasad Dahal, Chairperson of the Finance Committee.
